Blood
(From unpublished)
There was no money
in this world. Everything was paid for with blood: wages, fines, food,
gasoline, plane tickets, ship tickets, enrollment in school or a club, movie
tickets, concerts or theater tickets, taxes, pensions, cemetery plots, deposits
into a bank account. And the banks themselves were essentially blood banks.
When people took
out blood loans, they received someone else's blood and returned their own bloody money.
People literally
transfused blood from one person to another, from person to organization and
vice versa.
All prices and
tariffs were measured in blood.
For convenience,
people had a catheter inserted into their vein. At first it was uncomfortable,
but over time people got used to it. Did they have a choice?
There was a blood
balance in this world. If in other worlds wars were fought for territories,
natural and artificial resources, in this world everything was paid for with
blood - both wars and peace. The losers simply pumped it to the winners in huge
tanks or through underground or underwater blood pipelines. These wars were
predatory, everyone was taken prisoner. No one was killed, because as long as a
person is alive, he can produce blood.
This is how this
world has existed since time immemorial.
By the way,
geneticists in this world solved two problems: one was related to genetic blood
diseases, the other was how to give birth to a baby with a built-in catheter.
To make life easier for new people.
Problems started
when people with "bad" blood or simply sick people knowingly and
consciously (or unknowingly) transfused their blood to others.
This was the cause
of multiple financial crashes. Banks went bankrupt, people stopped trusting
payment systems. They asked the question, is it possible to have a different
world order? And they tried to find the answer in information about life in
other worlds.
